The Puerto Rico Small Business and Technology Development Centers, or SBTDC, marked SBDC Day 2026 by highlighting its impact on the island’s small-business sector, including $43.2 million in capital access and support for 12,633 jobs during fiscal year 2025.
The organization said it served 2,811 clients through consulting services, provided 23,685 hours of advisory support and trained 3,498 participants through seminars, while contributing to the creation of 168 new businesses.
“The success of the Puerto Rico SBTDC is made possible by a network of partners committed to the country’s economic development,” said Ivonne Negrón, executive director of the Puerto Rico SBTDC.
She said collaborations with Inter American University of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of Economic Development and Commerce, provide the infrastructure and resources needed to deliver free services to entrepreneurs.
SBDC Day is a national initiative recognizing the role of small-business development centers in supporting entrepreneurs and economic growth. In Puerto Rico, the program highlighted 2025 success stories including LS Quilting in San Juan, Tu Farmacia Express in Juana Díaz, Edelweiss Bar and Grill in Luquillo and Step by Step childcare center in Arecibo.
The organization said its efforts span all stages of business development, from early concept to export readiness, with a focus on resilience and long-term growth among small businesses.
Its initiatives include business centers in Caguas, Carolina and Aguada, as well as specialized programs such as AgriBIZ for farmers and a Business Prevention Program aimed at supporting operational continuity.
“SBDC Day 2026 celebrates not only these achievements but also the vision of a group of collaborators focused on excellence, service and continuous development,” Negrón said, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs across Puerto Rico.
